Got Faith?

Reading Passage: Hebrews 11:1
What is faith? It is the confident assurance that God's Word is true, and what God promises to do, He will do. These are a few of the men and women who, in times past, had faith in God.

Abel
By faith Abel obeyed God and brought the sort of offering God was pleased with.

Enoch
Enoch trusted God too. And God protected Him from danger.

Noah
Noah trusted God enough to build an ark even though those around him didn't believe there would be a flood and made fun of Noah and his family.

Abraham
Abraham trusted God. When God told Abraham to leave his home and go to a strange country Abraham obeyed.

Sarah
Sarah too had faith, and in spite of her old age, was able to give birth to a son. She knew God was able to do what He had promised. So from Abraham and Sarah grew a whole nation of people.

Issac
By faith Abraham's son Issac knew God would give future blessings to his two sons, Jacob and Esau.

Jacob
By faith Jacob blessed his grandsons, knowing that God would fulfill his promises to them.

Joseph
It was by faith that Joseph as an old man knew that God would bring the people of Israel out of Egypt - he even made them promise that when they left they would carry his bones with them.

Moses' Mother and Father
Moses' parents had faith too. When they saw that God had given them a special child they trusted God to save him from death and hid him for three months, and weren't afraid.

Moses
It was by faith that Moses, when he became a man, refused to be treated like the grandson of the king, but choose to share the ill-treatment with God's people instead. Moses was looking forward to the reward God would give him and because he trusted God he wasn't afraid of the king's anger. Moses believed God would take care of His people. By faith Moses lead the people of Israel through the Red Sea.

Rahab
By faith Rahab did not die with the others in her city when they refused to obey God.

It would take too long to tell the stories of ALL the others, but you can look a few up in the bible and read their stories for yourself. (Gideon, Barak,Samson,Esther, David, Samuel,Daniel, Joshua, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego)

These people all trusted God and as a result they won battles, overthrew kingdoms, ruled people well, and received what God had promised them; they were kept from harm in a den of lions, and in a fiery furnace. Some, through their faith escaped death by the sword. Some were made strong again after they had been weak or sick. Others were given great power in battle; they made whole armies turn and run away. And some women, through faith, received their loved ones back from death.

And there were others who were badly treated because they believed in God. These people were willing to die for what they believed, knowing that God would raise them back up to life and give them a great reward for their faith. These people were too good for this world. They didn't receive God's promise in this present age, but God will give them great honor and reward when He returns. For God wanted them to wait and share their reward with us.
